talkSPORT 2, the new 24-hour sports radio station which is part of the Wireless Group portfolio, announced today that it had secured live rights to Spanish domestic football, both LaLiga and the Copa Del Rey, until the end of the 2017-18 season.
The British-based broadcaster will be the only radio station in the UK broadcasting live commentary of LaLiga matches every week, with both talkSPORT and talkSPORT 2 able to feature over 150 matches per season. In addition, there will be even more live football on the station, including the Champions League, international fixtures and EURO 2016.
They will broadcast a weekly show on European football and the Sky Bet Football League, and tonight broadcasts its first European Football Show (5 - 7pm), which will be a LaLiga Special with Nat Coombs and Andy Brassell.
Managing Editor, Mike Bovill, said: "Messi, Ronaldo, Bale and Neymar – the best players in the world are coming to talkSPORT 2. Football fans can already hear the biggest matches in the English Premier League on talkSPORT, and now they can tune in to Barcelona, Real Madrid and the superstars of La Liga on talkSPORT 2, week in, week out for the next three years."
Javier Tebas, President of LaLiga, said: "The team at talkSPORT 2 have a great deal of experience from covering the Premier League in the UK for talkSPORT, and we are confident that this will serve them well in extending their coverage to the Spanish leagues. We can’t wait to hear how the passion they usually put into commentating Premier League matches is applied to LaLiga."
talkSPORT 2 is the sister station of the world’s biggest sports radio station, talkSPORT, which is the global audio partner of the Premier League and has a UK audience of over 3 million. Launching in March 2016, talkSPORT 2 will concentrate on live coverage of cricket, golf, rugby union, rugby league, tennis, football outside the Premier League and US sport. talkSPORT 2 will be available nationally on DAB and online.
