Luxury watchmaker Tag Heuer is now in charge of keeping time during LaLiga matches. Madrid's Royal Theatre was the venue chosen to announce the partnership, a landmark in the footballing world given that it is the first time that a luxury watchmaker has agreed to join one of the world's top football leagues as both its official sponsor and timekeeper.

Out on the stage, which was transformed into a football pitch for the occasion, Javier Tebas, LaLiga president, and Blanca Panzano, TAG Heuer's general manager in Spain, were joined by Raul Gonzalez, the LaLiga country manager for the USA, and Fernando Sanz, LaLiga's managing director for the Middle East and North Africa, to start the countdown to the new LaLiga season which kicks off in August.

"We're the best league in the world. We have the best footballers and the best clubs in the world. All that was left was for us to partner the best watchmaker in the world", said LaLiga president, Javier Tebas. "We thank TAG Heuer for accepting to partner us," added the president.

"We're proud to announce this partnership, one which completes TAG Heuer's association with the best football leagues in the world," said Blanca Panzano, TAG Heuer's general manager in Spain. "As official timekeepers for the Bundesliga and the Premier League, partnering LaLiga, one of world football's top institutions, is another step in line with our slogan #DontCrackUnderPressure, which essentially defines the LaLiga spirit."

Raul Gonzalez, the LaLiga country manager for the USA said: "I enjoyed a great many magical moments throughout my LaLiga career. It's great news that the best professional league in the world has partnered up with TAG Heuer, the world market leader in watchmaking, which is now responsible for keeping time during what is going to be an extremely exciting season." This statement was echoed by Fernando Sanz, LaLiga's managing director for the Middle East and North Africa: "TAG Heuer's announcement today marks the beginning of the countdown to the new LaLiga season and I'm sure that fans are impatient for it to kick off as soon as possible. It promises to be an exciting season following Spanish clubs' impressive performances in the UEFA Champions League and Europa League, as well as stellar performances by LaLiga players at UEFA EURO 2016 in France."

The incredibly high level and quality of LaLiga are just two of the characteristics which it has in common with TAG Heuer, but they are not the only ones. Both partners have impressive pedigree at the top of the game and trust in the importance of precision and accuracy when measuring time and, of course, every move. Every second counts for the timepiece brand as it does for every player in the teams which make up Spain's LaLiga, because a single minute can be enough to turn the scoreline around.

With this new association, LaLiga infuses itself with the philosophy of the Swiss watchmaker, represented by its slogan Don't Crack Under Pressure, to galvanise its teams and prevent them from succumbing to the pressure even during the tensest moments of each and every game which will make up the coming season.

The presentation ceremony was followed by the "shootometer", a game in which Raul Gonzalez and Fernando Sanz tried to score a goal with a group of children in order to raise funds for Champions for Life, a LaLiga Foundation charity initiative.
