Villarreal strike
Marcelino's men made a strong start with the confidence that comes from winning three and drawing one of their last four games in all competitions. Even though it was the hosts that had the first clear chance, Villarreal took control of the ball and the game, scoring through Denis Suarez after 27 minutes. The former Manchester City forward netted with a great right foot strike that left Rulli with no chance.
Agirretxe leads fightback
Real Sociedad reacted well and put Villarreal under intense pressure with leading scorer Imanol Agirretxe carving a string of openings. The striker had several long-range efforts, two headers and a one-on-one with Alphonse Areola, but luck wasn’t on his side.
Busy Canales
The Cantabrian midfielder was the outstanding player for the Basque team. Canales worked hard in defence, organised his team and was one of the most dangerous attacking players. Several attempts from outside the box went close to levelling the scores, but the Yellow Submarine held firm.

Suarez again
Knowing that the three points were fading away, La Real played with greater urgency, dominating possession and creating chances, only for Suarez to break away and seal the points for the visitors.
The 21-year-old rounded Rulli near the halfway line, as the home keeper pushed up in the closing minutes, and scored past a defender standing on the line. The win leaves Villarreal fifth with 30 points.
