Sporting win and secure automatic promotion

A convincing win by R. Sporting in matchday 42 of Liga Adelante against Real Betis (0-3) combined with Girona’s 1-1 draw with Lugo means the Asturian outfit have achieved direct promotion to Liga BBVA.

Sporting arrived at Heliópolis knowing only a win would do and that they would need Girona FC to slip up in order to secure automatic promotion to Liga BBVA. Abelardo Fernández’s started the better on against an indecisive Betis side, and they got their reward through a Miguel Ángel Guerrero goal after 24 minutes. The Asturian outfit pressed on for a second goal, however Isma López and Carlos Carmona could not find the back of the net in the final minutes of the first half and the sides went in at half time 0-1.

Betis wanted to finish the season well in front of their fans, and came out up for the second period, pushing on down the wing with Cristiano Piccini proving a threat. However it was the side from Gijón who scored again through Jony on the hour mark. Sporting’s perfect afternoon was completed seven minutes later through López’s individual goal, making it 0-3 as he beat Dani Giménez one-on-one.
