Sporting stage another epic comeback against Sevilla
The Asturians won 2-1 at El Molinon thanks to an Isma Lopez goal in added time to keep their dreams of avoiding relegation alive.
Perfect start for Sevilla
It only took Sevilla FC eight minutes to take the lead at El Molinon. It all started with a lovely piece of individual play by Fernando Llorente on the right flank, whose cross with the outside of his boot was headed clear by a defender. Vicente Iborra was quickest to react, popping up to volley the ball into the back of the net.
Sporting react
R. Sporting managed to cancel out Iborra's early strike on 22 minutes, significantly lifting the team's spirits. The equaliser came in an unfortunate move for Sevilla, with a cross by Jony which Grzegorz Krychowiak turned into his own net.
Sanabria can't catch a break
Antonio Sanabria was in the thick of things in the opening minutes of the second half. The Sporting striker had several chances to score a second goal for his side. However, the Paraguayan could not catch a break. His first lobbed effort crept just over the crossbar, and shortly afterwards he could only get the faintest of touches on the ball in the six-yard box after an Alen Halilovic strike.
Ndi comes close
Sporting kept up the pressure, but the winning goal evaded them. In the closing stages of the game, Dani Ndi had a chance which had the El Molinon crowd on their feet thinking the ball had gone in. The Cameroonian was through one-on-one with Sergio Rico and slid the ball through the keeper's legs, but it struck the side netting.
Three points at the death
Sporting were finally rewarded for keeping the faith until the very end, as occurred against Atletico Madrid. With the 90 minutes over and the game in injury time, Rachid's shot was intercepted in the area by Isma Lopez, who diverted the ball past the keeper to make it 2-1, this time sending the home fans wild.
