R. Sporting beat AD Alcorcón 2-1 on Matchday 18 in La Liga Adelante, marking a great end to the year for Abelardo’s men, who are second in the table with 36 points, and remain unbeaten all season.
Basing their game on a solid defence and a dangerous counterattacking style, Sporting were at their best against an Alcorcón side who created little in the first half. Jony put them ahead with a bullet header, followed ten minutes later with a second from Isma López, who put the finishing touch to a sweeping counterattack.
Sporting seemed to have the game wrapped up, but Alcorcón did build and create some pressure in the second half. Keeper Iván Cuéllar was called into action on a number of occasions, and finally Alcorcón got their reward. After an excellent counterattack of their own, instigated by Antonio Martínez, Andersón scored with a sweet right foot, bringing the tie alive again. The Rojiblancos had to withstand a late onslaught from José Bordalás’ side, but just about managed it, thereby retaining their number two spot, not to mention their unbeaten record this season.
