First attempt, first goal

RC Deportivo dominated possession and also enjoyed the best chances on goal, but it was Malaga who took the lead. They scored with their first attempt of the match. Raul Albentosa fired the ball in towards the near post from a corner in the 29th minute and Charles finished unmarked. He has now netted 10 goals this season.

Lucas Perez misses and Kameni goes off injured

Five minutes later, Lucas Perez had a great chance to draw things level. Two in fact. The first saw him clean through against Carlos Kameni, but the keeper beat his shot away. The rebound fell to the Deportivo striker, but with two Malaga players standing guard on the goal line, Perez managed to fire the ball against one of them. It was a case of mixed fortunes for Malaga. Kameni was injured in the move and had to be substituted.

Leveller before the break and Camacho’s header

Before the first half was over, a goal by Celso Borges ensured the scoreboard provided a fair reflection of the game. Fede Cartabia produced a great penetrating run down the flank before crossing into the middle of the box. Borges came running in and two touches later the ball was in the back of 'Memo' Ochoa’s net, who was playing his first LaLiga game for Malaga. However, the home team were not allowed to celebrate for long. On 63 minutes, Ignacio Camacho's powerful header put Malaga back in front.

Fede Cartabia and Lucas Perez to the rescue

He provided the assist for their first goal and scored their second. As occurred with Malaga’s first goal, Deportivo managed to equalise just minutes later. Cartabia picked up the ball out wide, zipped past two opponents into the area and beat Ochoa with a low shot. In the 80th minute, Lucas Perez made up for his previous misses. He connected with a cross inside the area and turned the game on its head.

Misfortune for Arribas

The fans at Riazor were going wild. Their team had staged a comeback. However, this was not to be the game which ended Deportivo’s poor run. Alejandro Arribas headed into his own net to leave the scores level and neither team happy with only a shared portion of the points.
