Sevilla FC gave Elche CF no chance in the clash between the two teams on matchday 27 of the Liga BBVA. Thanks to a Carlos Bacca brace and another goal from Kevin Gameiro the Andalusians triumphed 3-0 to tighten their grip on fifth place; meanwhile the Alicante side remains rooted in 15th after this defeat.
The home outfit controlled possession from the get go, although without creating too many chances on goal. However, in the 18th minute Bacca put Sevilla ahead by masterfully finding the back of the net from the penalty spot. With the 1-0 lead, the Andalusians continued to hold onto the ball and were soon rewarded with a second goal after Coke Andújar swung in an excellent cross from the right to set Bacca up with an easy header. Elche, for their part, could have narrowed the gap just before half time but Fayçal Fajr’s powerful strike was wonderfully saved Sergio Rico.
After the restart, Fran Escribá’s players showed their determination to fight it out until the very end and Víctor Rodríguez came close to scoring with a shot from outside the box. Despite the visitor’s efforts, Sevilla did not allow for any surprises and convincingly defended their lead. With nine minutes to go, Kevin Gameiro consolidated the Andalusian’s win by making it 3-0.
