Sevilla FC will defend their trophy in Warsaw after beating ACF Fiorentina 0-2 in the second leg of the UEFA Europa League semi-finals to complete a 5-0 aggregate win, and will meet surprise package FC Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk in the final after the Ukrainians saw off Serie A outfit SSC Napoli in the last four.
Unai Emery’s men came flying out of the traps, enjoying a good opening period to the encounter. However, bit by bit they let their control slip and, as the minutes passed, Fiorentina began to gain ground and soon carved out a chance to go ahead, when Gonzalo Rodríguez’s header was stopped by Sergio Rico on 17 minutes. That spurred Sevilla into action, and five minutes later, at the midway point of the first half, los hispalenses settled the tie through Carlos Bacca. And there was time for another before the break, as Daniel Carriço found the net.
In the second half, the hosts had the opportunity to hit back but Slovenian Josip Iličić missed a penalty that would have cut the deficit and might have brought his side back into the match. There was to be no change to the scoreboard at the Stadio Artemio Franchi, and Sevilla will represent the Liga BBVA in the final in Warsaw on 27 May.
