Initial intensity by the away side
The first minutes had Real Madrid keeping control of the ball, harassing the opponents’ box and putting the home defence under pressure several times. First it was Nacho Fernandez, who in the 11th minute, hit the post after a fierce strike. Afterwards, in the 22nd minute, Rafa Benitez’s team opened the score with a scissor kick by Sergio Ramos that surprised Sergio Rico.
Mishap for Benitez
The away manager was obliged to make a move and change his plans after 32 minutes. The fall that Sergio Ramos had when he scored made the captain hurt his left shoulder again and would have to be substituted by Raphael Varane.
Konoplyanka lead the southern reaction
Sevilla didn’t give up after the 0-1 and, with Konoplyanka as the most outstanding player, managed to turn the tables. The first goal came from a corner kick taken by the Ukrainian, which connected with Ciro Immobile, who beat Kiko Casilla with a crossed shot. In the second half, when the timer showed the 61st minute, Konoplyanka assisted Banega and the Argentinian scored the 2-1.
Llorente put the game on track for the local team
Sevilla’s hunger didn’t cease once the comeback was confirmed. In this way, when Real Madrid was fighting for a draw, Fernando Llorente put the match on track for Unai Emery’s team with a header to a cross from Mariano Ferreira.
James returns
The best news for Madrid. Nearly two months after he got injured, James Rodriguez had some minutes with Real Madrid. Benitez put the Colombian on in the second half as a wakeup call and he even scored the 3-2 during stoppage time. With this result, Sevilla climbs up to 10th with 15 points and Real Madrid are second with 24 points, three points away from Barcelona.
