Jonathan Viera's chance
The hosts dictated play in the opening stages, whilst UD Las Palmas soaked up the pressure and sought to break on the counter. The last 15 minutes of the half saw a role reversal with Jonathan Viera leading the charge for the Canary Islanders. The clearest goalscoring opportunity of the half fell the way of the Las Palmas attacker, and he came very close to breaking the deadlock when his fierce strike came back off Sergio Rico's crossbar.
A much improved second-half display
After a lacklustre first-half showing in which they were shirt of any sort of intensity, the Andalusians upped their game. Emery's men emerged for the restart with greater determination. The hosts played with far greater intensity, as they fashioned a number of openings.
Ever Banega, a class act
The Argentine demonstrated his class once again to score a great goal against Quique Setien's side. As they poured forward in droves, Emery's charges created numerous goalscoring chances and with 69 minutes on the clock, Banega's class shone through. After evading the challenge of one defender, he let fly with a superb strike from the edge of the area to give his side the lead.
Unai Emery shuffles his pack
With the game locked at 0-0, the Sevilla coach turned to his bench, introducing Vitolo and Michael Krohn-Dehli. On 75 minutes the changes produced the desired effect as an excellent through ball from Krohn-Dehli found Vitolo, who slid the ball across the face of the goal for Kevin Gameiro to tap home and give the home side some breathing space.
The Sanchez Pizjuan
This term, the Nervionenses have been at their best when playing in front of their own fans. Following on from their victory against Las Palmas, that now makes it 11 wins on the bounce in the Liga BBVA on home turf (and 13 in all competitions). Both FC Barcelona and Real Madrid feature amongst the sides to have left Seville empty-handed.
