Sevilla FC arrive in Tanzania ahead of LaLiga World clash with Simba SC

21st May 2019.- Sevilla FC arrived in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania on Tuesday ahead of a post-season match against Simba SC as part of the LaLiga World Challenge programme.

The squad, accompanied by the technical staff, club president José Castro and Sporting Director Ramón Rodríguez ‘Monchi,’ landed late on Tuesday afternoon at Julius Nyerere International Airport where they were received by local authorities, SportPesa – LaLiga’s regional partner – representatives and the Spanish Consul in Tanzania, Teresa Martin. Upon arriving at the airport, the team enjoyed a welcome ceremony and traditional Tanzanian dances.

Sevilla will face local heavyweight Simba SC on Thursday 23rd May at 7pm (local Tanzanian time) as part of the ‘LaLiga World SportPesa Challenge’ at Tanzania National Main Stadium. Thes years ago in the Andalusian capital, Sevilla FC are one of just nine clubs to have ever won the LaLiga title (1945/46). Boasting an impressive list of honours, the club have also won five Copa del Rey titles (1935, 1939, 1948, 2007 and 2010), one Spanish Super Cup (2007), five UEFA Europa League titles (2006, 2007, 2014, 2015, 2016) and one UEFA Super Cup (2006). One of Spain’s most iconic clubs now known across the world thanks to impressive international successes, Sevilla have won nine of their 13 titles this century.

Simba SC: Dar es Salaam side Simba SC are one of Tanzanian football’s most historic and successful clubs. Founded in 1936 as ‘Queens,’ Simba have won 19 Tanzanian Premier League titles, an almost unmatched record. Currently managed by Belgian coach Patrick Aussems, the current side boasts an attacking line led by Rwandan striker Meddie Kagere and fed by Zambian midfielder Clatous Chota Chama. Simba recently drew international acclaim by reaching the quarter-finals of the CAF Champions League in 2019 for the first time in 25 years, beating the likes of continental heavyweights Al-Ahly of Egypt and AS Vita of DR Congo along the way. No other East African side went as far.
