Sergio Ramos, on the wake of best defenders in Real Madrid history

The renewal until 2020 will allow him to become a club legend and overcome great records such as top central defender scorer or with more games played.

News

MON 17.08.2015

Sergio Ramos will be "madridista" at least until 2020. So says the new contract the player has signed with Real Madrid that will take him to his 34 anniversary dress in white.

The central defender, which already adds ten seasons at the Santiago Bernabéu, signed for five more years and faces a long list of records that he can be overcome in the coming years. We analyze and unveil the figures which can be his flagship targets as part of the history of the "blanco" club:

Top scoring defender

With 55 goals, Ramos has already overcome the 40 scored by Manuel Sanchis, and his next mark on his sights are the 66 goals by Roberto Carlos. Fernando Hierro is still far away, since the player from who Ramos inherited the number '4' came to mark of 172 goals. A number that Ramos will seek to achieve in the next five seasons.

Real Madrid legend

The defender from Seville will reach 15 seasons at the white club, so he will be placed just four matches behind Francisco Gento, with 19 seasons, as the player with more campaigns in Real Madrid history. The defender that sums more seasons in the team has been Sanchis, with 18, that it could be overcome by Ramos in the coming years.

The record of victories, on sight

It came in the 2005/06 season and he is just 97 victories from the record that Iker Casillas signed last season, becoming the top winning player of LaLiga. The record, previously led by Andoni Zubizarreta, with 333, was left by the former Real Madrid goalkeeper in 334. Now, the challenge for the defender is to increase the 237 victories with Real Madrid and go up as a winning legend of the championship.

Will it be the most experienced player of LaLiga?

The defender has 353 League games in his CV, a figure still far away from the 523 played by Sanchis, but reachable during the at least five seasons remaining with the "Blanco" team. By now, he is the sixth active player from LaLiga with more matches, just behind Albert Lopo, Dani Alves, Juan Carlos Valeron, Juanfran Garcia and Andres Iniesta.

Fixed in the starting lineup

Ramos also will fight for a place at the top lined up players. So far, he is the third player of the championship that has been part of the starting lineup of his team more times. Only Dani Alves and Lopo are ahead of him as current LaLiga players and from next Saturday the Real Madrid defender will fight to continue increasing his numbers as starting lineup player, trying to reach Fernando Hierro, with 490, the player with more starting line ups of Real Madrid.
