San Mamés, venue for the Essma Summit 2016

ESSMA (European Stadium and Safety Management Association) has chosen San Mamés as the venue for its major annual event. Between the 19th and 20th of January 2016, Athletic Club’s stadium will be the venue for this prestigious meeting. The first edition took place at the Allianz Arena in Munich, bringing together 220 participants from 25 countries. A success that is also expected in Bilbao.

According to John Beattie, the Director of the Emirates Stadium and President of ESSMA, “it is an honour to have Athletic Club de BIlbao as the organiser of the second ESSMA Summit. After the success of the first edition at the Allianz Arena in Munich, San Mamés is the ideal location to organise this first ESSMA event in 2016.” This meeting will be “a great opportunity to share experiences of European stadiums of different sizes and reports from experts.

Alfredo Lorenzo, director of LaLiga security and a board member of ESSMA, evaluated the opportunity to host this event would have for Spanish clubs. “San Mamés is the vanguard of stadiums and the perfect place for the stadium managers to share their knowledge, experience and participate in the conferences and activities of the Summit, under the unbrella of ESSMA.”

LaLiga was incorporated into ESSMA last March, allowing the 42 clubs and SADs to form part of the automatic system of organisation without any cost to them and without the need to play individual quotas for their participation in programmes for the integral management and security of their stadiums. ESSMA is an non-for-profit organisation integrated by the professional European football leagues, clubs and business tied to the sport.
