The 2016-17 season has finally drawn to a close. The last match of the season, the LaLiga 1|2|3 playoff final between Getafe CF and CD Tenerife, rounded off a historic season in Spanish football. Historic because a record number of fans attended LaLiga matches in 2016-17 – 14,052,134 to be precise, almost 40,000 more than the 2015-16 season.
Yet this wasn't the only record set. In LaLiga Santander the stadium occupancy percentage increased by nearly a percent from the previous year, reaching 71.51%. What’s more, two more records were broken – there were more season ticket holders (7,745,128) and more tickets sold (1,916,765) than ever before.
In addition to LaLiga Santander's achievements, LaLiga 1I2I3 also set records of its own. In the 2016-17 season, 3,560,776 fans turned out to watch their teams do battle in the second tier of Spanish football, while the number season ticket holders hit a record high of 2,577,406.
These statistics prove that LaLiga is growing and that the league has been heading in the right direction for the last few seasons.
