Real Sociedad won the Guipúzcoa derby 1-0 against SD Eibar, corresponding to matchday 20 of the Liga BBVA. A single goal from Xabi Prieto decided the game in favour of David Moyes’ men, who are on 22 points, and placed provisionally in 11th; the visitors are in 8th with 27 points.
Both teams had key roles to play in an entertaining first half that had lots of great opportunities. Real Sociedad sent out the early warning signs with a powerful shot from Carlos Vela that went overt the crossbar, whilst Eibar's first attack ended when Saúl Berjón was stopped by Gerónimo Rulli. The evenness between the teams could have ended with three minutes of the half remaining but Rulli was once again in great form, imposing himself in a one-on-one with Mikel Arruabarrena.
After the break, the team from San Sebastain managed to break the deadlock with a corner. Rubén Pardó crossed to the front post and connected with the Xabi Prieto, who headed the ball backwards straight into the goal. Despite Eibar’s attempts to get an equaliser, Real were successfully capable of keeping the advantage and the three points remained with home team at the Anoeta stadium.
