Real Sociedad picked up an important away win, the team’s first of the current Liga BBVA season, beating Getafe CF 0-1 to draw a close on matchday 27 of the championship.
The first half was a lively affair between the Madrid outfit and the Basques. The home side created the clearer of the chances with Pedro León leading the charge by trying everything he could to score. Despite his best efforts, the Getafe midfielder was unable to get off the mark, denied first by the crossbar and then by Gerónimo Rulli in nets. It was indeed the Argentine goalkeeper who stood out as the San Sebastian team’s best player, impressing on a number of occasions to keep a clean sheet.
As the game when on and the second half got underway, it turned into a back-and-forth battle between the sides, with the team from the capital looking most dangerous on the right wing. Even though Getafe looked in control, it was the Basques who were able to find the back of the net thanks to an Iñigo Martínez header, with the defender getting on the end of a Vicetne Guaita free kick 20 minutes from the end. Getafe searched in vain to get an equaliser but the game finished with David Moyes’ charges taking all three points.
