Rayo Majadahonda rise into LaLiga 1|2|3 for first time

CF Rayo Majadahonda have become the first team to seal promotion to LaLiga 1|2|3 for next season after claiming a 2-2 away-goals win over FC Cartagena in the Segunda Division B champions' playoffs.

After succumbing 2-1 away from home in the first leg, the Madrilenians had high hopes of turning the tie around in front of their fans in the return encounter. However, despite pouring forward throughout the match, it looked for all the world like their efforts would be in vain as a goal proved elusive. Yet their persistence finally paid off in the 98th minute, when Jorge Garcia flicked on a long throw and Cartagena centre-back Michel tried to clear but succeeded only in diverting the ball into his own net.

Securing promotion at the first opportunity caps an impressive campaign for Rayo Majadahonda, who topped Segunda B Group 1 ahead of RC Deportivo Fabril, CF Fuenlabrada and RC Celta B. The Madrilenians' reward is getting to play in LaLiga 1|2|3 for the first time in their history.

Cartagena, for their part, still have another shot at promotion as they now go into the second round of the playoffs.
