Raúl and Marcos Senna hang up their boots in style

The Spanish striker and Spanish-Brazilian midfielder, teammates at New York Cosmos, said goodbye to football after winning the final of the North American Soccer League against Ottawa Fury by 3 goals to 2.

The stage of the farewell of both players was the final of the North American Soccer League against Ottawa Fury. Marcos Senna and Raul Gonzalez, teammates at the New York Cosmos and the Spanish national team, hung up their boots after winning their last title to Ottawa. Raul made his mark in the final with an assist for the 3-1.

After 21 years in the elite, 1,033 games played, after going through four different clubs in addition to the Spanish national team, after scoring 432 goals, Raul took leave of football in New York. The Spanish striker says goodbye at 38 years. He ends his career in the New York Cosmos, where he arrived in December 2014. Without passing through the lower ranks and at 17, Raul made his debut for Real Madrid on October 29, 1994 at La Romareda and started a successful career. He played 16 seasons for the White club, where he won 16 titles, including six Liga BBVA, four European Super Cups and three UEFA Champions League.

Over the years, Raul became a symbol and idol of the Santiago Bernabeu. In 2010 he left Real Madrid and went on to play in the Bundesliga with Schalke 04 with whom debuted in July 2010 and won the German Cup and the Super Cup. After two seasons, the Qatari Al-Sadd was his next stop until less than a year ago when he landed in New York, the place where he said goodbye to his sports career. Plain, discreet and very familiar, Raul ends his career in exemplary manner.

In the farewell was joined by Marcos Senna, midfielder who won Euro 2008 with the Spanish national team. The Spanish-Brazilian was born in Sao Paulo and after five seasons in Brazil, traveled to Spain following his signing for Villarreal in 2002, where he spent 11 years and played 357 games. Senna was one of the most important men of the yellow team and won two Intertoto Cups in 2003 and 2004 consecutively.

When the Castellon team fell to Liga Adelante, the legend of Villarreal played with the “Groguets” and one season later the team returned to Liga BBVA. After returning to the top flight, the experienced player joined the New York Cosmos. Eighteen-year football career ending with a new title won in the Big Apple.

Both players have said goodbye in the best possible way, holding the title of champions of the North American Soccer League.
