Marvellous play by Las Palmas
After an active start, with both teams going side to side, a fantastic play by the home side put them in front after 28 minutes. David Simon joined the offence and crossed the ball into the middle of the box, where Vicente Delgado headed it towards Jonathan Viera who sent the ball to the back of the net with a hard shot. After the 1-0, the yellow side took control of the match and did not struggle to maintain the difference.
Araujo finally scores again
The Argentinian striker, hero of the promotion, scored his second goal of the season in a key moment of the match. It was during the 51st minute, stopping a Real Sociedad that started the second half with the hope that they could make the situation change. After receiving the ball in the penalty area, Araujo surprised Rulli with a low shot to take on the match for the local team.
The Setien effect starts to work
The Cantabrian manager, who took over Paco Herrera’s position in Las Palmas bench, accomplished his first victory and ended a five game streak without managing to win. In his first home match against Villarreal he scraped a draw, so their supporters haven’t seen their team loose at the Estadio de Gran Canaria since his arrival.
Agirretxe, stopped
The Basque striker arrived fully fit to this game, with 8 goals scored this season which made him the biggest threat for the Canarias team. Knowing this, the home defence showed their best version and they did not let him extend his amazing scoring streak.
The crossbar also stopped Real Sociedad
Sergio Canales had an incredible chance to score the 2-1 in the last minutes of the match, but his outstanding 30 metre strike hit the crossbar after a slight touch by Javi Varas. With this result, Las Palmas climbs up to the 18th position with 9 points, the same points Real Sociedad has in 16th.
