LALIGA Content Protection and the City of London's Police Intellectual Property Crime Unit (PIPCU) have joined forces in the fight against piracy under Operation Creative.  

Sergeant Andrew Masterson, Constable Abdun Noor and Constable Brandon Savage met with representatives of LALIGA and the Spanish National Police Intellectual Property Crime Unit in Madrid to outline the collaboration agreement. 

PIPCU was established in 2013 with funding from the Intellectual Property Office (IPO) and is part of the National Lead Force Operations within the City of London Police, which leads fraud investigations on behalf of the police nationally. 

Some 80% of global online piracy comes via illegal streaming. In order to put an end to these practices, police operations against individuals and organised crime structures are targeted in addition to blocking activities. 

The work done so far by LALIGA Content Protection, through its technological tools such as Marauder, Lumiere, Neko and Black Hole, has been available to content creators such as Telefónica, Atresmedia, Wimbledon, DORNA, SKY Mexico and the Ministry of Culture since 2017. 

LaLiga's Technological Protection of Content department has received several awards in the field of Research and Developmen. In particular, the applications, Marauder and Lumière, developed to combat illegal viewing of matches, have been awarded EQA (European Quality Assurance) recognition as an R&D project. Once again, the organisation's work in the field of technology and innovation has been rewarded, as it was with the Spanish Innovation Certification Agency (ACIE).
