Palco23 unveiled the first edition of The Economic Guide to LaLiga 2016 at LaLiga headquarters today. The publication collates the financial activity of every club that is currently part of LaLiga Santander. Marc Menchen, head of Palco23, was joined at the launch event by Javier Gomez, LaLiga's corporate managing director, and representatives from LaLiga Santander and LaLiga 1|2|3 clubs.
The report details the clubs' financial movements from 2011/12 until 2014/15, coinciding with the introduction of LaLiga's financial controls: "We're totally neutral and we have no club allegiances. We are always prudent. No club has squandered money since the financial controls were introduced. LaLiga clubs have spent much less than they've received in terms of buying and selling players," stated Menchen. The head of Palco23 analysed the importance of this for Spanish football in the report: "No club is in a worse position than it was in previously over the given time period." "This is a good first step for informing society of the things that we're doing well and those where there is room for improvement," added Gomez.
The representatives from the LaLiga clubs were in agreement about the important role the guide would play in their growth, development and professionalisation as clubs and public limited sports companies: "Over recent years, we've witnessed some major professionalisation amongst football clubs," declared Mario Aragon, head of administration at Atletico Madrid. Elsewhere, LaLiga's vice-president and president of CD Numancia, Victor Martin, highlighted the value of the content included in the new guide: "It contains some superb data that many people would have given a great deal to have access to." Meanwhile, Patricia Rodriguez, managing director at SD Eibar, sought to express her gratitude: "We're grateful for your coverage and the information that you provide us with."
The LaLiga representatives in attendance discussed the following economic issues, which are currently having a direct impact on the Spanish game: LaLiga's growth, international investors and the clubs' economic development. The staff members all concurred on the importance of the clubs continuing to drive their internal professionalisation with a view to generating further revenue, thereby strengthening their respective financial positions.
