CA Osasuna managed to put an end to FC Barcelona's impressive run with a draw (0-0), in a match that was notable for the return of Carles Puyol after seven months out. The result means that the Catalonian team has failed to equal the best ever start in the Liga BBVA, recorded by Real Madrid CF in the 1968/69 season.
Barcelona dominated the first half but without any significant chances to fluster their opponent. Osasuna, for its part, by means of clinical positioning and focus, was able to stand up to the Catalonian side. The biggest chance fell to Azulgrana centre-back, Marc Bartra, who smashed a ball over the bar minutes before the break.
In the second half, 'Tata' Martino's team continued to dominate possession and was unable to capitalise on a slick move where Neymar failed to finish a pass from Montoya. Cesc Fàbregas also tried his luck with a chip which the Navarrese side's keeper managed to get his hands on. The late introduction of Lionel Messi was too little too late for Barcelona, who let slip its first two points of the season.
