Official Statement from the LFP

Regarding the information published on Thursday in the publication AS on the commitment of guarantee required in Real Madrid CF's 2013 presidential elections

In light of the information published today in the publication AS on the commitment of guarantee required for Real Madrid CF's 2013 presidential elections, the Liga de Fútbol Profesional would like to clarify the following:

1.- That Real Madrid requested that the Liga de Fútbol Profesional validate the template for the commitment of guarantee that was to be demanded from the various candidates who stood for the 2013 elections.

2.- In response to such request and once the aforementioned commitment of guarantee had been examined, on 21 May 2013 the Liga de Fútbol Profesional certified that it was completely in line with the applicable legal provisions to that effect, as well as with that provided on the subject in the Liga de Fútbol Profesional's Articles of Association.

3.- That, likewise, Real Madrid requested that this Liga de Fútbol Profesional certify which people were legally obliged to present the guarantee and, consequently, the previously mentioned commitment to guarantee.

4.- In response to this request, the Liga de Fútbol Profesional informed Real Madrid on 21 May 2013 that the only candidates who were not obliged to present the aforementioned commitment to guarantee were the members of the Board of Directors chosen in 2009, headed by Mr Florentino Pérez Rodríguez, as they had already presented the corresponding commitment to guarantee and guarantee at that time and that during the period of their term of office they had obtained profits of 91,740,000 euros for the club, which is why they were exempt from the obligation to present a commitment to guarantee.

5.- Finally, the Liga de Fútbol Profesional would like to clarify that Real Madrid’s practice of requesting the validation of the commitment to guarantee has been an obligation in the club’s Articles of Association for 22 years.
