They were all exceptional as they provided the last line of defence for their teams in the 2013-14 season, and now they are hoping to receive official recognition at the '2014 LFP Awards Ceremony'. Thibaut Courtois, Willy Caballero and Keylor Navas have been nominated for the 'Best Goalkeeper in the Liga BBVA' for last season and are looking to keep their place at the pinnacle of international goalkeeping.
A 2013-14 Liga BBVA champion conceded fewer goals than any other keeper during the season (26). The young Thibaut Courtois, one of the main architects of Atlético Madrid’s success in recent seasons, now plies his trade at Chelsea FC, but his dives, his saves and his safe hands have earned themselves a place in Rojiblanco history.
Willy Caballero is up for the award for the second year on the trot. His acrobatics and grit in the Málaga CF goal have made him a key player for the Andalusian outfit, who finished the season in eleventh position having conceded 46 goals. Among his personal achievements is the record time for not conceding at Málaga, who he kept safe for 479 minutes and, as with Courtois, his performances in the Liga BBVA provoked a move to England and Manchester City last July.
Keylor Navas cannot be overlooked either. His outstanding season with Levante UD made them one of the surprise packages of the 2013-14 season and took him to Real Madrid, where he will now hope to exceed the 163 saves he made last year. He stopped more goals than any other keeper throughout the season and led his side to tenth position, leaving him fifth on the fewest goals conceded table.
