They are the brains of their teams, responsible for linking the defensive line to the attack; they create, but also destroy. The good work of Gabi Fernández, Luka Modrić and Sergio Busquets has not gone unnoticed and the Atlético Madrid, Real Madrid and Barcelona players, respectively, are the nominees for the 'Best Midfielder in the 2013-14 Liga BBVA' award, the winner of which will be revealed in the '2014 LFP Prize Gala', to be aired on La Sexta (10.30 pm).
Atlético’s unforgettable season featured Gabi as one of the stars of the team, reason enough in itself for him to be among the three best midfielders and to be crowned the best. He has won titles in all of his three seasons at the Manzanares club: a UEFA Europa League, a UEFA Super Cup, a Copa del Rey and the Liga BBVA last season, crowning them as the best team in the best league in the world.
He joined Real Madrid in 2012, and though his first year with the Whites was remarkable, in the 2013/14 seasonLuka Modrić was outstanding; it was the season in which he established himself. The Croat is synonymous with talent, vision on the field and perseverance, just a few reasons why he could receive the award.
Though it was a campaign without titles for Barcelona, the Catalan side fought until the final day to become champions of the Liga BBVA, and Sergio Busquets was one of the men responsible for ensuring that they were still in the fight at the end. The Azulgrana footballer played his 250th game wearing the Barcelona shirt last season. His versatility and solidity are some of the qualities that could make him the best midfielder in the Liga BBVA.
