FC Barcelona eased into the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League after beating Paris Saint-Germain 2-0 (5-1 on aggregate) in the second leg of their quarter final tie in Europe’s elite competition. Two goals from Neymar mapped out the Catalans path into the semis after they were knocked out at this stage last season.
Despite the fact that PSG were boosted by the return of Marco Verratti and Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who were absent from the first leg, it was the blaugranas who made the better start, and they wrapped up the tie early on thanks to Neymar’s ruthlessness.
The Brazilian, who is in sensational form, brought the ball round Salvatore Sirigu to tap into an empty net after an inside pass from Andrés Iniesta with just a few minutes on the clock. And just a few moments later the Brazilian struck again, heading Dani Alves’cross into the net to give his side a two-goal advantage going into the break.
In the second half the French side dominated the ball and gave a better showing of themselves than before the break, making for an end-to-end match. Despite this improvement, the visitors could only manage a timid shot from Verratti and a wayward effort from Lucas Moura, and the game finished 2-0 to the Catalans. The win sees Barcelona book their place in Friday’s semi-final draw, joining FC Bayern München in the pot.
