Musonda – a man on a mission

He was a success in the Chelsea youth ranks, his father is an Anderlecht legend, he admires Joaquin and it has been said that "watching him on the ball is like playing on the PlayStation". You can now add the fact that he startled the Benito Villamarin crowd on Saturday to that list.

"Play with your head, lad," Juan Mata told him during his inaugural training session with the Chelsea first team. Jose Mourinho handed a debut to the delighted teenager in a friendly against Sydney FC in June 2015. Making his bow in the Liga BBVA last weekend was a dream come true for the Real Betis loanee, who was the man of the match in the win over Valencia CF.

His physique bears resemblance to Robinho's, while his style of play is not dissimilar from Neymar's. "Watching Musonda is like playing on the PlayStation," is how Anderlecht's Peter Smeets describes the youngster whose fascinating story began in the Belgian capital.

Musonda's father Charles Sr. is a renowned figure who made over 100 appearances for Anderlecht and whose life story is quite something, too. A knee injury ended up saving the Zambia international's life when it ruled him out of a World Cup 1994 qualifying match in Senegal. All the players on board the flight ended up tragically losing their lives in a crash. Following on from the catastrophe, Charles Sr. retired from international duty and fathered a son three years later.

Charly's older brothers Lamisha and Tika are also footballers. All three were touted for greatness, although the youngest of the trio is the star. Half of Europe battled it out for his signature before he eventually decided on Chelsea. He had but one wish: to play football and stay close to his family. 'The Blues' made his dream reality by taking all three siblings to London.

Charly Jr. quickly got used to life in a new city and at a new club, as seen by his influential role in Chelsea clinching the Youth League title last season. He is also a hot prospect for the Belgium national team, having impressed from U15 up to U21 level on the international stage.

The 19-year-old has now swapped rainy London for sunny Seville, blue for green and Stamford Bridge for the Benito Villamarin. When he walked into his new dressing room, he paused by Joaquin's locker. "He's a top player," he stated. If Charly Jr. continues in this vein of form, the Spanish winger will be returning the compliment before too long.
