Muniain ruptures cruciate ligaments and misses rest of the season

Athletic Club have confirmed a serious injury to one of their most important players. Iker Muniain got injured during Athletic’s 2-0 defeat at Sevilla FC on matchday 29 and had to leave the pitch on a stretcher. The tests carried out by the club have confirmed that the player has ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee and will be out of action for between six and seven months.

Muniain, who has played 25 of 29 partidos de la Liga BBVA, is an indispensable player for Ernesto Valverde’s side, and as well as missing Athletic’s remaining nine games of the league season, the forward will also miss the Copa del Rey final against FC Barcelona on 30 May.
