Mikel Merino named Liga Adelante Player of the Month for June

The At. Osasuna midfielder Mikel Merino has been named the Liga Adelante Player of the Month for June after acting as one of the architects behind an exceptional month for the Navarre-based outfit, which ended with the club being promoted to the Liga BBVA.

His stats in the month of June have been spectacular and his performances in the final game of the regular season and in the playoffs were vital to Enrique Martin's side achieving promotion to the top flight. They produced five wins in as many games played in June, including two massive double-headers against Gimnastic and Girona FC as part of the promotion playoffs. And during this vital spell of the season, the young talent made his quality plain for all to see.

He made a fundamental contribution in the playoffs against Nastic, making his presence felt during set pieces and scoring a brace at El Sadar, and he was on equally impressive form in the return game. A goal and a back-heel assist helped his team through to the final, where he confirmed his ability to control the tempo of the game and aid his team in making the dream of returning to the top flight after a two-year absence a reality.

This accolade, which is awarded by BBVA and voted for by the LaLiga.es writers, recognises the great job done by Mikel Merino, who netted three goals and provided one assist in the month of June.
