Passion for LaLiga permeates every corner of the globe. LaLiga Legends are set to play a match in Toluca against Leyendas de Mexico, a side composed of some of the North American country's greatest football veterans.
The match, which will kick off at 20:00 local time (Saturday at 04:00 CET), was unveiled at Alboa restaurant in the Santa Fe Shopping Centre with Fernando Sanz, LaLiga's General Director for the Middle East and North Africa and Head of International Sport Projects, and Rodrigo Lopez Jurado, the president of Global W Mexico, in attendance alongside the LaLiga Legends and Leyendas de Mexico teams.
LaLiga's head of international sport projects, Fernando Sanz, talked about the players who make up the LaLiga Legends team and the importance of Mexico to LaLiga: "World and European champions are here. The team is filled with greats and we are extremely happy and very excited to be here. It is a real source of pride for us to be able to take part in this project thanks to LaLiga." The event included appearances by LaLiga ambassadors Fernando Morientes, Kiko Narvaez, David Albelda, Gaizka Mendieta and Marcos Senna, along with the former players Ruben de la Red, Paco Pavon, Francesco Coco, Koke Contreras, Leo Franco, Albert Luque, Joan Capdevila, and Emilio Amavisca.
The president of the agency Global W Mexico, Rodrigo Lopez, welcomed the LaLiga Legends team and thanked the players and event sponsors for coming: "It is a pleasure to be here with Leyendas de Mexico and with LaLiga Legends. It will be a great game. There is no need for me to talk about the titles won by all of the players and their great careers. Welcome everyone."
Meanwhile, Alberto Garcia Aspe, a member of Leyendas de Mexico, invited fans to attend this Friday's game: "I'd like to encourage people to come to a match in which both teams are going to put on a great show and we're really going to entertain the fans. of the players and their great careers. Welcome everyone." The president also wished to stress that the event will be streamed live online: "It will be broadcast globally on Periscope via Twitter."
Finally, Fernando Morientes assured that participating in events like these takes them back to their playing days. "I'm proud to come here and play, and to be able to spend time with the fans. Thank you to LaLiga for making us feel like footballers again."
