Malaga Club de Futbol will participate in more than a pre-season tour, in the LFP World Challenge. In the last season, the blue and whites travelled to Australia, and, at the end of last July, the side, managed by Javi Gracia will do a tour in South America to contest the Euro-American Cup, a tournament organised by Directv, which combines teams from America and Europe to play against each other.
At first, Malaga CF will travel to Colombia, where, on the 26th July they will face the current champion of the league: Deportivo Cali. Next, Malaga will travel to Argentina to face San Lorenzo de Almagro on July 30, an historic Argentinian club that won the Copa Libertadores on 2014. Then, on August 1, Malaga will visit Uruguay to face Club Atletico Penarol. Both games will be broadcasted by Directv Latin America.
After a tour in Germany, where Malaga CF will face Karlsruher SC (Friday 17th July) and at SC Freiburg (Sunday 19th July), the team will travel to South America in the LFP World Challenge program to play in the Euro-American Cup tournament, organised by Directv, that will offer both games that the blue and white team will play. First, Malaga CF will visit Colombia on Sunday 26th July to play against the current Colombian champions, Deportivo Cali, in the Estadio Deportivo Cali with a capacity of 42,000 spectators (the highest capacity stadium in the country) that was opened in 2010.
After playing in Colombian soil, Malaga will travel to Argentina to face (July 29-30) Club Atletico San Lorenzo de Almagro at Pedro Bidegain Stadium in Buenos Aires. The malaguistas will play to the 2014 Copa Libertadores champions, one of the most decorated clubs in Argentina.
Next, Javi Gracia´s team will travel to Montevideo (Uruguay), where they will play Club Atletico Penarol, a historical club and one of the teams with the best track record of South American football. Nonetheless, they were nominated as the best team in the in 20th Century of South America according to the International Federation of History and Football Statistics (IFFHS). This match will be play on Saturday 1st August in the Estadio Centenario, with a capacity to fit more than 60,000 spectators.
The Euro-American Cup. The Euro-American cup is a football tournament where teams from Europe and America will face each other, organised by Directv, right holder of the Latin-American games. The Euro-American cup is part of the LFP World Challenge program, which is aimed to spread internationally the image of Spanish professional football. As for the system of competition, every game is played with the prize of one point and the continent with the most points during the tournament is the winner. Additionally, the team that wins every game will receive the James Hogg Trophy, the name of the man who brought football in America in the 19th Century, and the Euro-American Cup, with the name of the city where the game was held.
