Great start for Eibar
The Basque derby began with Eibar clearly in command of the ball, used, as they are, to taking the lead in big games early on. True to form, Jose Luis Mendilibar's men did not take long to put themselves ahead in the first stages of the match. Capa made his way down the right wing and served a cross that Sergi Enrich let pass by, so that Borja Bastón could drive home his team's first goal.
Already with the upper hand, the visitors were almost able to increase their lead when Saul Berjón's shot bounced off the crossbar. Ernesto Valverde, however, managed to tear free from Eibar's intense pressure and, as usual, Aduriz appeared just at the right moment. With great finesse, the striker pulled off a spectacular acrobatic shot in the area to secure the equaliser.
Comeback in style
After the equaliser, Eibar had their best chances, and were able to exploit long balls in order to light up the scoreboard. Sabin Merino slipped a corner kick from Beñat into the near post to put his team firmly back in the match and Laporte again took advantage of some defensive confusion to put away his team's third goal.
Borja Bastón
After halftime, Eibar got back in the game thanks to a penalty foul by Laporte against Keko. Borja Bastón was right on target from the penalty spot and put a new point on the scoreboard, giving Eibar hope that they could turn the match around.
Aduriz is true to form
However, as in the first half, Eibar's goal just made Aduriz spring into action. The forward brought the San Mamés audience to its feet with a spectacular volley in the area that put the fourth goal on the scoreboard for Athletic. The red and white celebration came to an end with an own goal by Mauro Dos Santos that crowned Athletic Club's triumphal win.
