Liga BBVA debutants CD Leganes will present themselves in the top flight of Spanish football with a new look and a fresh new smell! The club from just to the south of Madrid have launched a new kit with a badge which they claim ‘tastes and smells of success’. The smell they have gone for is of cut grass!

“Joma proposed the idea of having a badge on the new shirts which tasted and smelled of something, as we were playing next season in the Primera Division for the first time,” the club’s Marketing and Communication director, Daniel Abanda, told LaLiga. “The idea fitted really well with how we see ourselves. A close-knit club, with a sense of fun, and with a desire to do things differently as we have been doing since we were in the Segunda Division B (third tier of Spanish football). The response from the fans on the first day was spectacular with enormous queues at the stadium shop. We are where we want to be, we want to stay close to our fans and help make them smile.”

(The video’s in Spanish but you get the idea!)

Leganes won promotion to the Spanish top flight for the first time in their 88-year history at the beginning of the month, ending the season as runners-up in the Liga Adelante. The club are just a few kilometres away from derby rivals Getafe, who were relegated last month, and are known as 'Los Pepineros' (the cucumber growers).
