Coach Asier Garitano has guided the outfit from the Madrid suburbs to a spot in the top flight for the first time in their history, at the end of a campaign in which his side have delivered consistently excellent performances and hard work aplenty. Garitano has engineered a meteoric rise since taking the helm, having first overseen the club's climb out of Segunda Division B (the third tier) and now led his charges into the Liga BBVA.
Jon Ander Serantes between the sticks, Martin Mantovani in the heart of defence and Gabriel in the middle of the park have provided a strong spine for a team in which individuals have taken a back-seat to the unit, albeit Ruben Peña and Alexander Szymanowski have regularly been inspirational in attack. The coach has kept his squad fresh thanks to his rotation policy, while fashioning a side that is very solid defensively and prolific going forward. These two overarching qualities have stood them in good stead, ultimately earning them a place in next season's Liga BBVA.
