UD Las Palmas proved that they are determined to win automatic promotion this season as they beat Real Zaragoza 5-3 in the Estadio de Gran Canaria. Sergio Araujo, with a brace, Nauzet Alemán, Marcelo Silva and Roque Mesa provided the goals that saw off the Maños. Pedro Sánchez equalised in the first half, while Willian José provided hope late on.
It was an intense encounter between two teams who seem destined to be in the fight for automatic promotion to the Liga BBVA. Las Palmas got off to a flier with a superb goal from Sergio Araujo, although the celebrations in Gran Canaria only lasted five minutes as midfielder Pedro Sánchez took it upon himself to level the scores. Nauzet almost managed to give his men the lead, however, he failed to make the most of a one-on-one with the keeper.
The Canary Islanders made a perfect start to the second half as they reeled of three more goals to add to their haul. First Nauzet fired in across the keeper, then Marcelo Silva and Araujo put the match to bed for the home side. As the clock ticked on, Zaragoza began to take control and showed signs of a comeback, but Las Palmas midfielder Roque Mesa cropped up to put the final nail in their coffin.
