Lemos keeps things tight for Las Palmas
The first half at Riazor was evenly matched, and the Uruguayan's superb defensive performance played a big part in ensuring that the scores reflected as much at the interval. The UD Las Palmas number 3 made a particularly important intervention when he dispossessed Lucas Perez as he was winding up his left foot for a shot on goal.
Lucas, ever present
Lucas Perez was RC Deportivo's standout performer once again. The Galician player, as electric and threatening as ever, came close to opening the scoring on the stroke of half-time after collecting a pass from Sidnei. Although he failed to get his shot on target, he came back out even stronger after the break. Lucas broke the deadlock with 47 minutes played, picking up an Albert Lopo clearance and beating Javi Varas in the one-on-one.
Araujo strikes back
The hero behind the club's Liga BBVA promotion returned to the starting line-up and did not disappoint. The Argentine striker gave Las Palmas a lift in the 58th minute by netting the equaliser. He received a good pass from Momo and then produced a masterful finish to beat Manu Fernandez with a low drive inside the far post. He later went on to make it a brace and kill off the game in injury time.
Tribute to Valeron
With the scores level at 1-1, Quique Setien gave Juan Carlos Valeron the nod on 69 minutes. The Riazor fans took to their feet to give the Canary Islander a heartfelt ovation, who shone for Deportivo during 13 seasons and earned his legend status at the club.
The run continues
Las Palmas never gave up hope of completing the comeback and their faith was rewarded. It was David Garcia who managed to put them ahead in a move in which the captain came from deep to get on the end of a pull-back by Aythami and put the ball into the back of the net. Araujo's goal in added time was the icing on the cake in a game which saw Las Palmas make it six wins in their last seven outings.
