UD Las Palmas beat RCD Mallorca 2-1 on matchday 23 of the Liga Adelante, in a result that saw Paco Herrera’s team earn an important win to maintain their grip on first place despite the visitors taking a first-half lead.
Mallorca drew first blood, going 1-0 up after a shot from Manuel Arana took a deflection off a home defender and was diverted into the back of the net. Las Palmas sought to produce a reaction and created danger in their opponents’ area through Sergio Araujo and Nauzet Alemán. A golden opportunity to equalise arrived just before the break, but the ball struck Jesús Cabrero’s bar.
After the restart, the team from the Canary Islands came out with the same intensity and, with his first touch, Alfredo Ortuño produced a powerful drive from the edge of the box to level things up at the Estadio de Gran Canaria on 70 minutes. With Arana having seen red beforehand for a second yellow, the momentum was now with the hosts. And in the final moments, Mallorca’s Pau Cendrós was also sent off after a foul in the area saw the referee point to the spot, Momo stepping up to seal Las Palmas’s 2-1 triumph.
