Las Palmas come back to climb eight points clear of the drop zone

An early goal

It took Valencia CF just three minutes to open the scoring, which came courtesy of Rodrigo's first goal of the season. UD Las Palmas keeper, Javi Varas, failed to clear following Aythami's pass back and Rodrigo pounced on the ball to break the deadlock. The game had started well for Valencia.

Las Palmas react

Far from letting their heads drop after going a goal down, the home side reacted well and dominated the remainder of the first 45 minutes. Despite controlling the ball, they failed to take their chances and went in a goal down at the break. Willian had the Canary Islanders' best chance of the first half.

Penalty

It was a similar story after the break, but this time Lady Luck smiled on Las Palmas as Las Palmas equalised in just the 4th minute of the second half. The referee gave the home side a penalty which Jonathan Viera put away to draw the game level at 1-1. The goal was the Las Palmas midfielder's seventh goal this season.  

A Las Palmas comeback

Las Palmas refused to give up. They threatened throughout the second half and finally found their reward. On 63 minutes, a poor clearance by the Valencia defence rebounded off Shkodran Mustafi and into their own net. 2-1 to the home side.

Five from six

The Canary Islanders have now won five of their last six games. Quique Setien and co. appear to have saved their best football until the end of the Liga BBVA season and that has seen them climb the table and clear of the relegation zone.
