LaLiga’s love affair with the Europa League

Since the turn of the century, the UEFA Cup/Europa League finals have had a distinctly Spanish flavour with teams from LaLiga winning eight of the last 13 editions of the tournament.

In total, Spanish clubs have won the UEFA Cup/Europa League ten times in its 44-year history, the highest of any country.

Sevilla FC claimed a record-extending fifth triumph in Basel on Wednesday, Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid have both won it twice, with Valencia CF lifting the trophy once. LaLiga clubs have been runners up on five occasions: Athletic Club twice, RCD Espanyol twice and Deportivo Alaves once.
