The financial control measures imposed by LaLiga continue to bring an array of positive results. The efforts made by LaLiga clubs to balance their accounts and reduce their debt has brought a historic reduction in money they owed to players at the end of a season. As a result, the 165 complaints received by the end of the 2014/15 campaign fell to just six, although these, due to the different criteria of the alleged amounts owed, are unlikely to be successful when they go before the Joint Commission.
There has been a more than significant reduction in that debt over the past six seasons
Of the 89,080,311 euros owed in the 2010/11 season, only 189,959 euros remain outstanding, something which once again highlights the results of the financial controls imposed by LaLiga on its clubs and public limited sports companies (SAD), and the efforts of these to offer complete financial transparency.
In keeping with the objectives set out by Javier Tebas when he took over the LaLiga presidency in 2013, figures have seen a huge reduction since then. There were 195 complaints brought against clubs in 2013/14 (a total of 22,839,033 euros), a figure which dropped to 165 complaints (a total of 16,851,629 euros) in 2014/15. Last season drew to a close with only six complaints (189,959 euros), a historic milestone and a key objective for the current LaLiga administration.
A priori, the main objective in the application of financial control measures is to guarantee the growth and sustainability of LaLiga clubs. The impressive results from the centralised sale of audiovisual rights have contributed to achieving this financial solvency, whilst bringing optimism for the future and allowing LaLiga to continue being the best league in the world.
