The impending 2016/17 season will see LaLiga make further strides in its international expansion. The new campaign, which gets underway both in LaLiga Santander and in LaLiga 1|2|3 this Friday, 19 August, will have a truly global reach.
LaLiga Santander matches will be watchable practically worldwide, with coverage set to be available in over 170 countries. LaLiga fans will be able to feast their eyes on all 848 games across the two divisions in 2016/2017 – 380 in LaLiga Santander and 468 in LaLiga 1|2|3, including the six fixtures in the promotion playoffs. Supporters across the planet will therefore get to savour the best football in abundance.
The global audience for the top two tiers of the Spanish game in 2015/16 stood at 2.1 billion, with standout figures including the 1.163 billion people that tuned in from Europe and the further 424 million that did so from Africa and the Middle East. On a country-by- country basis, Spain itself had the largest audience, with 692 million domestic viewers.
LaLiga is intent on continuing its international growth this term and improving on the aforementioned numbers, and will be leveraging its offices in the United States, Dubai, South Africa, China and Nigeria to drive this development. On this note, today saw the presentation of the coverage to be provided by PPTV, LaLiga,s principal broadcaster in China, in the 2016/17 season, which will give the Asian country,s more than 1.3 billion inhabitants the chance to enjoy LaLiga Santander matches to the max.
