Robert Sarver – the long-time owner of the NBA franchise the Phoenix Suns and also the owner of RCD Mallorca since January this year – hosted a series of joint working sessions that were also attended by Maheta Molango, who has been the CEO of the island club since Sarver completed his takeover.
The offices at the Talking Stick Resort Arena were the setting for discussions on a number of topics, namely: squad management, marketing, sponsorship activation, the matchday experience, sales strategies for tickets and audiovisual content, and fan engagement.
"We here at the United States LaLiga office are constantly meeting with figures from different areas of North American sport to share ideas and strategies, and to pitch them our competition's global development plan. The Phoenix Suns have a sound structure in place and Sarver possesses 12 years' experience of managing the franchise. I'm sure his success will carry over to Mallorca," Raul Gonzalez told laliga.es at the conclusion of the sessions.
"It's a pleasure and an honour to receive our friends from LaLiga in the Valley of the Sun," noted Sarver, who also acknowledged the "great work" that the Spanish league's organising body is doing to push into new frontiers: "LaLiga is expanding globally and is doing a really good job in the United States, headed by Raul. We want to share our knowledge in every area so that we can together deliver exponential improvement."
Molango, for his part, drew a parallel with the efforts the NBA has been making for years to foster knowledge and information synergies between clubs. "Javier Tebas's work to strengthen LaLiga is the reason we are where we are. The establishment of a solid framework and strict financial-control rules is what led to the change of ownership and to Sarver investing in Spain. We're delighted to be working to create a better product," he added.
