Following on from a full schedule of action on Saturday, which featured the round-of-16 and quarter-final stages, R. Sporting, Atletico Madrid, Villarreal CF and Real Madrid clinched their places in Sunday's semi-finals, with the action set to get underway at 10:00 CET as the four sides bid to make it through to the final.
Round of 16
The second day of the tournament kicked off with the round-of-16 clashes, in which three of the eight ties were ultimately decided by penalty shoot-outs. Real Madrid and Sevilla FC served up a 1-1 stalemate in normal time, with the Los Blancos prevailing in the shoot-out, whilst RC Celta overcame Valencia CF on spot-kicks and Malaga CF held their nerve to send Real Sociedad home.
Meanwhile, Villarreal cruised into the quarter-finals after running out convincing 4-0 winners over UD Las Palmas. Elsewhere, RCD Espanyol claimed a 2-1 win in their pulsating derby encounter against FC Barcelona, with victory coming courtesy of a Mark Sorroche brace, the first of which was a real masterpiece.

In the opening game of the day, Sporting caused a shock by coming from behind to win 2-1 against a Granada CF side who had won all four of their group games. As for R.Betis - one of the quartet of teams to remain unbeaten throughout the group stages -, they continued their march by recording a 2-0 triumph over D. Alaves. In the other round-of-16 showdown, Atletico fought back to see off RC Deportivo 2-1 and set up a quarter-final showdown with Espanyol.
Quarter-finals
Of the 20 sides that began the tournament, eight remained to battle it out in the quarter-finals, with Sporting, Atletico, Villarreal and Madrid prevailing to seal their places in the semi-finals. The first side to qualify for the last four were Sporting, after the Asturian outfit netted two quick-fire goals in the space of six minutes en route to a 3-0 win over Celta.

Another side who comfortably eased into the semi-finals were Atletico. Despite Espanyol getting their noses in front, the Rojiblancos turned things around to claim a 4-1 win to progress to the semis.

The most tightly contested of the quarter-final ties was the meeting between Villarreal and Betis, which saw the hosts claim a narrow 1-0 victory over the Andalusians. Real Madrid were the last side to book their semi-final spot following an emphatic win over Malaga, which came courtesy of three first-half strikes and a fourth after the interval which completed the rout. The four sides will now battle it out to take their places in the final, with the semi-final action getting underway on Sunday at 10:00.
