As a part of its drive to promote the development of youth football and instil the positive values associated with sport in the nation's youngsters, LaLiga has taken a further step in its sporting projects within the United Arab Emirates by partnering with du to launch the du UAE Football Association Academy League. The aim of the initiative, the country's first of its kind, is to create an innovative platform which enables the leading clubs and academies from across the United Arab Emirates to showcase their players' talents.
The league, contested by teams up until the Under-18 age group, got underway this week and runs until the middle of May 2017, with 14 academies competing in the tournament. The participating players are divided up into the following five leagues: U10s, U12s, U14s, U16s and U18s, with games set to take place in various cities throughout the Emirate of Dubai, the Northern Emirates and the Abu Dhabi Emirate.
This is far from LaLiga's only contribution to the Emirati football scene. On this note, in October 2016 the organisation opened a High Performance Centre in Dubai, where 21 players – the winners of the UAE Schools and Streets Cups – are currently honing their skills, and they will now have the opportunity to compete in the academy league under the LaLiga banner. All of this is part of a comprehensive platform, run in conjunction with LaLiga, offering the most promising starlets in the United Arab Emirates a shot at pursuing a professional football career both domestically and internationally.
By impressing in the academy league, the youngsters involved could potentially be chosen to join the LaLiga High Performance team or be recruited by other Emirati clubs. What's more, those selected will have the chance to travel to Spain to play friendly matches against LaLiga clubs' youth sides. In addition, the league will serve to promote UAE football and the country's budding talents in the rest of the world.
