With another round of LaLiga Santander fixtures done and dusted, it's now time to look back at the latest LaLiga Fantasy MARCA Best XI, in which Girona FC are the dominant force following their sensational win on Saturday.
The Catalans are the best represented side in this star-studded lineup, with a total of four representatives, including Player of the Matchday Michael Olunga, who helped himself to the matchball in his side's 6-0 rout of UD Las Palmas. The Kenyan striker is joined in this Best XI by his teammates Johan Mojica, Portu and Borja Garcia. Meanwhile, in the wake of their tremendous result this matchday, a trio of Villarreal CF stars also make the cut, whilst FC Barcelona contribute two players, with Getafe CF and Valencia CF providing one man apiece.
Taking his place between the sticks in this dream team is Villarreal's Sergio Asenjo, who produced a stellar performance as the Yellow Submarine secured the club's first-ever victory at the Santiago Bernabéu. The Spanish shotstopper pulled off a string of incredible saves to keep Real Madrid at bay before the visitors struck a late winner to etch their names into the history books.
Unsurprisingly, there's also a strong Villarreal presence in the defensive ranks of this Best XI. Daniele Bonera and Alvaro Gonzalez were part of a sterling rearguard action against Los Blancos, with the defensive duo doing more than enough to merit their places in this team. Lining up alongside them are Girona's Mojica and Getafe centre-back Juan Cala, who amassed the most points of all of the division's defenders (17).
The middle third is dominated by Girona's leading lights, with Portu and Garcia taking their places in the engine room, where they're accompanied by Valencia's Gonçalo Guedes, who claimed a goal and an assist in Los Che's 2-1 away triumph over RC Deportivo.
The team's forward line features hat-trick hero Olunga, whose dazzling display against the Canary Islanders is enough to see him scoop the Player of the Matchday honours. The African hitman is joined up front by Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi in a lethal-looking front three. The in-form Uruguayan, who has now been on target in each of his last six league outings, was one of the standout performers as he bagged a brace to help Barça come from behind to see off Real Sociedad. Messi, meanwhile, fired home a stunning free-kick to cement his place at the top of the division's scoring charts.
