LaLiga complaint leads to seven piracy-related arrests

Police have made arrests in Madrid, Barcelona, Malaga, Toledo and Cordoba in connection with the sale of decoders modified to gain illegal access to subscription television.

A complaint filed by LaLiga late last year has led to the arrest of seven people in Madrid, Barcelona, Malaga, Toledo and Cordoba over recent weeks. As the Liga BBVA and Liga Adelante marketing rights owner, LaLiga had reported the detection of fraudulent activity with regard to card sharing in the form of the illegal sale of modified decoders, which enable unauthorised access to the content on subscription television platforms on which matches are broadcast.

The operation mounted to arrest those involved was carried out by agents of the telecommunications fraud squad. LaLiga thus continues to safeguard the rights of the LaLiga clubs as well as the legal users of the various television platforms, who make a financial commitment to be able to enjoy watching our competition.
