The Za'atari and Azraq refugee camps, both in Jordan, are once again buzzing with the excitement of football matches as part of the LALIGA Za'atari & Azraq Social Project programme. Launched by the LALIGA Sports Projects department and FUNDACIÓN LALIGA, in collaboration with AFDP Global (Association Football Development Programme), this project aims to use football as a tool to spread the positive values of sport and to empower refugees to improve their psychological well-being, resilience, and the way they relate to others.
In the latest edition of the project's football competition, more than 300 boys and girls will represent 16 boys' teams and 12 girls' teams in Za'atari, with 144 boys and girls split between 8 boys' teams and 8 girls' teams in the tournament in Azraq. They’ll be wearing kits provided by various LALIGA clubs to give colour and a sense of belonging to the participating teams.
A few days ago, one of the most awaited moments for all those involved took place: the draw for the kits of the teams in the competition, which generates great interest due to the impact LALIGA clubs have on Jordanian society. In both Za'atari and Azraq, the competition will be divided into three categories according to the players' age: U18 and U15 for girls, and U13 for boys.
In terms of sport, the LALIGA Za'atari & Azraq Social Project counts on the invaluable collaboration of 90 adults who participate in the competition as coaches, referees and staff. Many of them were trained in previous years within the training framework of the project, thus creating different job opportunities, as well as undoubted personal growth.
Additionally, the development of the league is also supported by different organisations that regularly work on the ground, building a very important collaborative network in the region: Blumont, Questscope, UNICEF Makani, Norwegian Refugee Council, Lutheran World Federation, Save the Children & UEFA Foundation / AFDPG, World Vision and Care International.
In parallel to the sporting event, both in Za'atari and Azraq the training courses for coaches and referees will continue, based on FUNDACIÓN LALIGA's own methodology 'Values to Win'. They will expand their knowledge in the technical-tactical aspects of the game, training methodology, first aid and education about positive values. A range of subjects that are of utmost importance and necessity due to the social context of the refugee community.
Olga de la Fuente, Director of FUNDACIÓN LALIGA, maintains that “It's very enriching and rewarding to see how this project has established itself on the ground in Jordan, becoming a model for promoting positive values and education among refugee children, fostering social harmony and their development thanks to the values they learn through football”.
Al respecto, hace unos días se vivió uno de los momentos más esperados para todos los participantes: el sorteo de las equipaciones de los equipos de la competición, lo que genera un gran interés por la repercusión que tienen los clubes de LALIGA entre la sociedad jordana. Tanto en Za’atari como en Azraq la liga estará dividida en tres categorías en función de la edad de los y las futbolistas: sub18 y sub15 en el caso de las femeninas, y sub13 en las masculinas.
En el aspecto deportivo, LALIGA Za’atari & Azraq Social Project cuenta con la inestimable colaboración de 90 personas adultas que forman parte de la competición en los cuerpos técnicos, así como ejerciendo las labores de árbitros y staff. Muchos de ellos, capacitados en los años anteriores dentro del marco formativo del proyecto, lo que les está generando diferentes oportunidades laborales, así como un indudable crecimiento personal.
Además, para el desarrollo de esta liga se cuenta también con el apoyo de diferentes organizaciones que trabajan sobre el terreno de forma asidua, generando una red colaborativa muy importante en dichas regiones: Blumont, Questscope, UNICEF Makani, Norwegian Refugee Council, Lutheran World Federation, Save the Children & UEFA Foundation / AFDPG, World Vision y Care International.
Paralelamente a la competición deportiva, tanto en Za’atari como en Azraq prosiguen los cursos de formación a entrenadores/as y árbitros/as basados en la metodología propia de la FUNDACIÓN LALIGA ‘Valores Para Ganar’, ampliando sus conocimientos en aspectos técnico-tácticos del juego, metodología de entrenamiento, primeros auxilios y formación en valores. Una serie de contenidos que son de máxima necesidad y practicidad por el contexto social que se vive en la comunidad de refugiados.
Olga de la Fuente, directora de la FUNDACIÓN LALIGA, asegura que “es muy enriquecedor y satisfactorio poder ver cómo este proyecto se ha consagrado sobre el terreno jordano, convirtiéndose en un referente en promover valores y aprendizajes entre los niños y niñas refugiados, favoreciendo su convivencia y desarrollo social gracias a los valores que aprenden con el fútbol”.
