Real Sociedad are on their way to the United States where, for the next 11 days, they will be involved in the LaLiga World campaign for the second straight year. The San Sebastian outfit is once more taking part in the LFP World Challenge, whose goal is to promote Spanish football and raise its profile. During their time Stateside, La Real will play two matches. First they will face off against the San Jose Earthquakes on 18 May and then, as part of the Charities Cup, they will take on the Houston Dynamo on the 24th in Texas.
Joining Real Sociedad on their trip to the USA are the Spanish national rugby sevens squad, and the two will be teaming up at the Champions of Spain event at the Basque Cultural Center in San Francisco on 19 May. This link-up illustrates LaLiga's ongoing commitment to supporting all Spanish sports players, as borne out by the LaLiga4Sports project and the aid that Spanish football provides to the country's various sports federations. The idea behind LaLiga4Sports is that the circumstances of all Spanish sports and sports players can be improved through comprehensive collaboration.
Also on 19 May, the Basque club will be participating in the Spain Experience at Google's headquarters in San Francisco, together with Ignacio Martinez Trujillo, LaLiga's managing director of innovation and global development, and Raul Gonzalez, LaLiga's country manager in the USA. This event will consist of a panel discussion on the impact of digital transformation on the sports world, featuring participation from, among others: LaLiga, Real Sociedad, two local clubs (the San Jose Earthquakes and the San Francisco Deltas), Google and YouTube. La Real's tour will conclude in Houston with the above-mentioned game against the Dynamo.
Raising the international profile of Spanish football and spreading the values of LaLiga and its clubs are the principal objectives of the LFP World Challenge, a programme launched by LaLiga in 2014 with the support of the Spanish government, the High Council for Sport (CSD) and the Institute for Foreign Trade (ICEX). The initiative seeks to bring together some of the best clubs in the world to promote the image of Spanish football, disseminate the values of the Spain brand and Spanish companies, and generate opportunities through related cultural and business events, leveraging the synergies associated with a major international sporting event.
