Javier Fernandez, Miki Ando and LaLiga were the talk of the town in Nagoya, Japan on Wednesday.
As part of its strategy to promote Spanish football and sport overseas, LaLiga organised a masterclass in the Japanese city for kids, fans and the media. The event saw Javier Fernandez – a two-time world figure skating champion, who is sponsored by LaLiga – delight the locals together with his fellow double world champion Miki Ando.
The event, which was held at Nagoya Sports Center, invited those in attendance to express their passion for LaLiga alongside Fernandez and to strut their stuff on the ice with the help of two of the greatest skaters ever.
The occasion was particularly memorable for one of the more than 150 people present: the winner of LaLiga's #LaLigaFanN1 contest, who revelled in the chance to get up close and personal with the Spanish ace.
After the masterclass, Fernandez hailed the initiative and held it up as an example of LaLiga's support for Spanish sport: "It's been a really nice, special day for all concerned. LaLiga have given us a great opportunity to be with our fans. It's shown everyone how, thanks to LaLiga, football and other sports walk hand in hand in Spain."
Meanwhile, Ando, a Nagoya native, was thrilled to come face to face with her fans again: "Coming back to my hometown is a pleasure. LaLiga has put on a great event to promote football and our sport. We've all had a wonderful time."
A group photo was taken to wrap up proceedings, with Fernandez and Ando posing together with all the participants.
